Fan Visits Darkfall Devs!

Asp, member of Lords of Death, was able to visit Aventurine and test out Darkfall for him self. It has been over a week, and yet no response until now. LoD still hasn't heard from Asp since his last message he sent to them so, because of the long delays, LoD decided to release the first message they received by Asp.

Asp:
I played the game (a stable version they had from about a year ago). I played an Orc (of course); The best made Orc I have played... ever. The inventory screen is exactly like UO. It brought back fond memories. You know how back then you would kill someone you loot all kinds of bags? (i.e. Some neatly arranged ones or just messy thrown together ones). It certainly adds more pleasure to the kill when you get to see the time and care someone put in arranging their stuff while you're looting it. It definitely makes the kill a more personal thing.

It's just more talk. It doesn't mean much of anything until they have thousands of people "reviewing" it. And if those thousands feel that its great then they have something , if they don't then they are screwed plain and simple.
One persons personal opinion of something he tested doesn't carry any weight. And his 1 subscription isn't going to matter.
They need thousands upon thousands upon thousands of subscribers to make a mmorpg profitable enough to stay online. And in todays mmo market place doing that isn't as easy as it was when EQ1 and AC1 were in their golden years. Just take a look at games like Ryzom for example that went bust and Ryzom was a very robust , well built game.
Someone was also there visiting them 4 years ago and tested something himself too and did his own write up saying he liked what he was showed. But years later theres still nothing for the public to actually see or play.
Personally , from a business view , I think this project is doomed even if it does enter the market. It's about 2+ years too late. It will never hold up to the heavy hitters like AoC and Warhammer and like it or not it *HAS* to if its expected to have tens of thousands of subscribers. I am not even going to mention WoW's new Exp pack. That alone has the potential to put big dents into the subscriber base of even the most well known mmog titles out there. And the fact its much more PvP centric and dynamic doesn't bode well for other similar style games.
Sure there might be an early surge of players because everything has lots of people checking it out when something is "new". Especially when its a MMORPG but then things tend to die down when people get their "free play" fix and move on to what the masses are playing.
I just don't see this project having the potential to be a success anymore even it does make it to pay to play. sorry

I also do not believe that 20 people can build a mmorpg with the feature set that darkfall is supposed to have when it took around 80 seasoned professionals 4 years to build World of Warcraft with 100% proven skills and technology.

I don't think the fanboys even begin to realize how ridiculous this projrct probably looks to other professional development studios and how much it actually has to prove still.
What has darkfall proven in the last 7 years? Absolutely nothing if you ask me. I'll list darkfalls accomplishments in the last 7 years.

1. They have a website up that BTW looks extremely amateurish at best. I am employed as a professional graphic artist. I should know.
2. They released a few Alpha videos that show extremely basic things going on. Some horses running around and people swinging some weapons.
3. They showed up to E3 one year and did not even display their product.

Where are the videos of the siege systems and Sieges taking place? Where are the videos of the city systems and Cities being built dynamically? Where are the videos showing that their server technology can handle even a few hundred people on screen at once without bogging down to 5 FPS?

All of the competitors like AoC and Warhammer have these videos. Whats wrong with darkfall showing the same?

There has not been even a tiny glimpse that any of these (major features) are anywhere near being done or functioning in any kind of form.

Also , where is their Publisher that they have been seeking since early January? This fact alone shows that no one wants to publish this game after being given previews to what they have built so far. Why don't they if it's so grand??? Because it isn't otherwise they would of signed with one already long ago. Comen sense.

Please..... Until there is an actual public playable beta that shows all of thse things working smoothly this project is still complete nonsense in my mind.

WRONG, Asp said there are 30-40 people, not 20, pay attention, or at least READ it.

WRONG AGAIN, DF started as just an idea back in 2000, worked on by FIVE count 'em FIVE people .In 2002 Aventurine incorporated Razorwax (the original team) thats when they got about 20, and over time they've gotten more people.

Why they haven't got a publisher? Most publishers are too nearsighted to see the potential this has, just try to be quiet and stop harrassing the developers, and see what happens, publishers don't come because of you retards saying "this game will never come out." The publishers have to see the good, not the imaginary crap you're making up.

Yeah, it is obvious that the 20 people that designed Eve Online had no idea what they were doing.

Good article by Asp. Nothing new, but it's good to hear that progress is being made. I particularly liked the "I Killed Tasos in 5 hits" or something like that. I love quick and fast paced battle.
