Beta update?

It seems beta may be closer then we think. With Tasos talking about getting applications ready there seems to be an update on the offical Darkfall forums. Brannoc, Admin at Darkfall forums, has posted a sticky saying clan beta sign ups are closed and solo sign ups are soon*TM*

Can this be true? And if so how much longer untill solo sign ups? Only time knows and we'll have to wait and see if Darkfall beta can start before Fall.

I've heard DFO was gonna have most mature, friendly, and advanced auditory of fans (copmared to WoW or other commercial products). I'm new here and what I see on these forums in EVERY thread is mostly senseless argueing of two factions, whether DFO is vaporware or not. It's getting boring. I wanna believe it's just few castaways, who make the whole thing up.. but hey guys, it really IS annoying and makes very bad impression on new folk like me.

Don't bother listening to the doomsayers. I'm sure the DFO community will settle down and the immature kids will be sifted out once the game is actually released.

yamisniper I play WoW, but just until this comes out, which is definetely NEXT YEAR, as in Jan. - July. Not 2009 like somebody *cough* brand0o *cough* says.

The reason they even are taking so long, is that they want as much as possible done FOR BETA, in beta would you rather play a half-ass game, or the real thing? They don't want to send it out there too early, long dev + short beta = short dev + long beta... there are probably 10X more DF supporters than haters, why would forum mods, UNPAID by Aventurine, STAY for a game that'll never come out?

I have been following many MMORPGS (including WISH, Warhammer and others) I have to say that any game that stays in development for 5+ years is doomed.
Technology moves so fast in this industry that anything that old would look ancient in visuals, technical details and often in actual aspects of the game.
I have seen personally many very ambitious projects that promised EVERYTHING MMORG players want EXACTLY like darkfall does. Those projects consequentially stayed in development for years and never materialized.
So just like Age of Conan and some other games this one is 99% Vaporware at this point.

Meaning they have the rights to use the word "Darkfall" in the US. They have to give proof of the product or it will be revoked. Meaning that this game isnt vaporware or this wouldnt be here.

You bring, for once, a reasonable argument in the discussion. Indeed, technology is flying forwards and the longer a project stays in development the harder it is to keep up with current standards. However:
1. Darkfall never promised extraordinary graphics or anything; its strong points had and will always be the gameplay concept.
2. Graphics - which is the one area in computer business where technology advances rapidly - are usually done last in a game; the 3D world has been build but texturing and such will be left for the end. So that alleviates some of the concerns over DF being antiquated in respect to technology being implemented. All other technology aspects concerning computing power should be up to date even with a 6-year old rig. The computing required on the client side is never extraordinary save for the graphics for MMOGs in general. Server infrastructure decisions on the other hand, as you may have been informed if you read the Dev Journals, has also been kept for the end to make sure that the latest in technology is used.

Teedle, you have no idea what DF will look like, none of us TRUELY understand WHAT EXACTLY is happening there, and games that go in for over 5 years? DF has only truely been in production for 5 years, 7 years ago it was just an idea, formed by Razorwax, then Aventurine bought it, or something, THEN they began making it full tilt. They ONLY have 20 people, most MMORPGs have more.

i suggest go look up all the info on the game about that and other stuff and change your post before you look like a retard

If there was anything out or coming out that even appeared to be as good as DF People like teedle & brand0o would be playing or reading about it and not spending the time on DF forums. The reason DF has had loyal support for so many years is because many veteran player can see its potential. This is no SB copy and it is certainly not WoW. Anyone experienced in this genre of games knows what DF could be. I have been watching DF for a long time. It is possible that this game never comes out however this is very unlikely. This is business with a lot of time and money involved. At this point vaporware shouldn't even be discussed. There has been progress this is for sure. So how can you call it vaporware? Unless Aventurine goes bankrupt this game will release. They have too much riding on it. If and only if that happens should this game be considered vaporware. Teedle & brand0o let me know if you find something promising enough to lure you away from DF talk. I haven't found anything.
