Killed 10 Boars Posts: 15 Joined: 28 Jun 2007 | Ok now that we've upgraded from endless screen shots of people on mounts, now we have an actual video of that in action... wooptie doo. Why has there never been any screen shots/videos at least of skills or spells in action, city seiging, climbing, swimming or other essential details of this game? Darkfall is not releasing Beta this year, let alone summer. The lackluster of this video and journal pretty much seals that argument/discussion shut. My serious bet is that this game will finally be released by Fall of 2009. Actually it's not a bet, it's more of a deadline because after 1 decade, the technology in this game will be so old that the game itself will be rendered moot. Gameplay is important yes, but so is the technology used and animation/graphics(to an extent). This game is looking more and more like the next Shadowbane as time creeps by. By the way, I refuse to believe that is a woman riding that mount. Tell the truth, it is a man with buns in his hair. |
Apprentice Posts: 1 Joined: 14 Jul 2007 | Can someone give this halfwit a link to the gameplay video they released a while back where they throw spells and all sorts? I find it more then just amusing that people seem to think Darkfall will be another Shadowbane or DnL "because it's taking to long to release" when the only reason those games failed was because they released to Early. Is it just me or are forum trolls in general really really stupid? Also stupid enough to think that Adventurine won't want to hold onto and show of their strongest cards just before release and let the world stand in awe. They have no actual need to show of anything atm, they already have their money (which they needed a strong community in 2002 to get) now they could really just let it die out because we will all be back when this releases anyway no matter how neglected we may feel. I'd suggest to the devs that they might as well let the community die at this point, we will all be there at release even if its 20 years from now. |

They complain if the game takes a long time to develop to make it good, and then if they push it out too quick, it's all buggy and they complain. The key difference is all of them will play the game if it comes out and is good, regardless of how long it took, where as an early game filled with bugs will be empty in no time (Vanguard, Shadowbane). |
Killed 10 Boars Posts: 16 Joined: 5 Jun 2006 | (accidentally missed the white box to start typing, so sorry about the report Draugh) After playing Mount&Blade I realized how much people really want good game play (and not the stuff that people eventually make macros for), once you're sucked into it, the graphics just slip from what you look for in a game. M&B doesn't even have crafting and I still have hours of fun laying carnage to groups of soldiers over and over because of the game play that makes my skill as a human matter as much as my character's skill. It's certainly easy to believe that game play matters the most but once you play M&B, a game whose game play is said to parallel DFO's that you realize how much gamers want so much deep down to have combat where timing and skill is a big player. |

Apprentice Posts: 9 Joined: 21 Jul 2007 | wow it's another 5 second mount video running around an empty landscape. What a pleasent surprise. "Eh, people are stupid." You're right. That's why theres fools that follow darkfall for 7 years getting excited about 5 secound Alpha videos once every 6 months. Delusional , biased , moderator fanboys are stupid also. Hey Draugh , let me ask you a question - have you ever said anything negative about this project? Even when it clearly deserved it? Didn't think so.. brown noser. moving on. "Why has there never been any screen shots/videos at least of skills or spells in action, city seiging, climbing, swimming or other essential details of this game?" Because they rather show you a mount running around an empty landscape as usual. "I find it more then just amusing that people seem to think Darkfall will be another Shadowbane or DnL "because it's taking to long to release" I don't. And no one with some actual common sense would either. "Can someone give this halfwit a link to the gameplay video they released a while back where they throw spells and all sorts?" I've seen that video. It shows the most basic , rudimentary , Alpha stage gameplay you could possibly have for a mmorpg game (or any game for that matter). It's just a bunch of poorly animated models running around swinging weapons. And thats after "4" years of development. If you actually want to believe the "only 4 years in development" excuse the fanboys love using constantly. Only one more month left this summer. I wonder if the promised beta will show up next month. what a joke. Hey Draugh - you seem to have lots of blind faith in DF and the devs words. I have $500 that says the promised DF beta doesn't show up this summer or this year. Care to match that? "they already have their money" Oh really? You have access to their bank accounts or something? Another nice example of a delusional fanboy talking straight out of their behind. |

It seems Aventurine scored a > $20 million dollar loan and filed for trademark for Darkfall. This obviously has nothing to do with Darkfall development or pending beta release. |

Actually, as Panchoe points out, Aventurine has scored some money, and we've known for some time that Aventurine has some pretty deep pockets and well off investors. They've also reserved the Darkfall name for merchandising in the US, as well as the trademark name for the game as well. All this is information readily available if you don't mind combing through boring internet .pdf files hosted by the government. But by all means, continue your misguided crusade against Darkfall. I'm sure a couple of us will find your petty antics most amusing. |

They have very deep pockets from programming millitary programs. You can't deny that they have enough money to support Darkfall. *Edit* Oh and I have talked to Tasos myself and he has told me they are very busy right now, with what Im not sure but trying to get beta out by summmer must really have them busy. Apprentice Posts: 9 Joined: 21 Jul 2007 | How do you know that is the SAME Aventurine? All it says is "Aventurine". If that is the same Aventurine company making DF and they have multiple millions to work with then what are they doing releasing 10 second alpha videos every 6 months? why don't they have a huge professional team rather than a bunch of mediocre devs wasting all their $ for the last 4-5+ years? and if that truly is the same company and they have millions at their disposal I find it pretty disturbing that they've been releasing such crap over the years. It just shows how serious they actually take this game project. hell maybe its just being used as a tax write off and they never intend on doing anything real with it. I`ve had first hand experience with the British simulations, and if the Greek sims are anything like theirs, Darkfall is going to be worse then vaporware. Also what I don`t understand, is how people believe a game company making sims has enough experience and knowledge to create not just a standard MMOG, but a "revolutionary" MMOG. When you see the end product, you realise how unsophisticated the software really is. The graphics/sound are usually bottom bar to reduce hardware costs. The only difference with Military and Gaming, is that Military has to be more realistic, and usually the only difference between Military software for different countries, is that countries require specific vehicle configurations. Show some actual proof that they have done so called work for the greek military, and they have done sims for them. Show concrete proof of their funding. Show actual in game footage NOT over 1 years old, and NOT 10 seconds long. Show proof it`s not vaporware after 6 years in development. The game is vaporware until the day they can field a credible demo to someone besides secret publishers, financiers and what not. Until the day a large group of people can see and play the game ( WARhammer if you need an example) its release is suspect and there isn't much anyone can say to convince most people differently. |
Forum Moderator Posts: 88 Joined: 24 Mar 2007 | Show us some concrete proof of your views, and we'll talk, the fact that you're an anonymous internet nobody versus the Darkfall devs who we've talked to and see means that the onus is on you not them. They don't have a PR guy yet because they're saving money for the release push. The developers haven't ever been misleading about their corporation. We know that Aventurine is the only registered corporation in Greece by that name. |

Oh look, somebody who claims that Darkfall is vaporware and yet presents no credible or solid evidence to back up his theory. Instead it seems he just talks in circles while drooling and eating his own feces. On Warcry? How unusual. |
Apprentice Posts: 9 Joined: 21 Jul 2007 | "Show us some concrete proof of your views" I don't have to. I am not building a product to try and sell to anyone. "They don't have a PR guy yet because they're saving money for the release push." Oh I see.. so I guess hiring a PR guy would really cut into the budget of someone who is able to create a commercially acceptable mmorpg game. Makes sense. Do you even bother to read what you write? Or are you just so caught up with trying to validate 7 year old vaporware that any kind of excuse will do for you? That has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever read in my life. You can't seriously be stupid enough to believe what you just wrote. LOL "Instead it seems he just talks in circles while drooling and eating his own feces." There is a good example of your typical darkfall follower. Disgruntled from following and defending it for 7 years. Don't you ever stop and wonder why you always have to come up with ridiculous excuses for something all the time? Theres a reason for that. You don't see anyone calling Age of Conan or Warhammer or any of the other countless mmorpg's being made vaporware. Theres a reason for that too. Time to wake up. |
Forum Moderator Posts: 88 Joined: 24 Mar 2007 | You're attempting to discredit a product, which requires proof to be taken seriously. You have none, so just leave. If you're not interested in the game, then why are you here? You only look like an idiot to the rest of the community. Once again, I would suggest you stay out of threads like this, for your own good. You have 0 evidence to support your claims, while we have almost all of it. Hiring a PR manager at this point would be counter productive. Other games are able to release "snap-shots" of their game like Warhammer and AOC by putting out small "zones" for people to play in. Unfortunately, Darkfall is designed in a seamless world so it would be difficult to showcase that all off easily and effectively. Further, they are working hard on the game to get it released, so they probably don't want to waste people's time. They are also probably trying to keep operating costs down, so that means not running un-necesary staff before they're ready. If they knew their beta milestone and release date was locked in, then they could afford to do it from a cost analysis. But with no firm dates except unpublished internal ones, they'll want to keep money costs low. Bear in mind that 1 guy doing PR poorly can be worse than having 0 PR. WAR and AOC have big teams of people who market the game. Darkfall would need to match that, and that is a lot of money that they likely don't want to spend yet. It's funny how you continuously resort to attacking our community when you are called out for being misinformed or ignorant. You are a typical example of a Darkfall smear campaigner. No credibility, no proof, and nothing to back up anything you say except the same tired drivel year in and year out. Disgruntled after following it for 7 years...sounds a lot like you! Funny how that worked out! No one calls AoC or Warhammer vapor because they've been seen in action and played at gamedays, because they have the money to PR. Further, they NEED to run PR because their games are completely devoid of uniqueness in terms of the greater market. WAR is not significantly different from DAoC, AoC has some new combat mechanics, and seems to be mostly running on the "omfg graffix" crowd more than the gameplay crowd, so they need to market their game to pull in people because honestly, their games look like everything else out there. |

Both Conan and WAR are vaporware. It's pretty obvious. Retard. |

I agree about gameplay over graphics to an extent but DFO is much deeper than just gameplay, if a game was just gameplay only and not the added freedoms of crafting player housing creating cities, sieges etc then eventually the game would just be stagnant and repetitive. And lets face it we don't actually know if DFO's gameplay is any good yet, that said I can't wait to see if it is. This game is setup to be so much more than just gameplay. thanks for the video,(just what we needed) please give more videos!!! |

Darkfall Developer Journal #11: Aerdin Cat Gameplay Video
We're back on track with a new exclusive update from Tasos Flambouras and the Aventurine SA crew. This week, Tasos tells us a bit about the delay, what's been going on over in Greece and gives us a rare gameplay video of the Aerdin Cat, the Mirdain mount.
Written by Tasos Flambouras (Ass. Producer, Darkfall)
It was nice that DF Warcry took the blame for the lack of update last week but it's our fault as well. We had to travel on business which took longer than expected, and then E3 got in the way so we all got behind and lost track, and here we are, minus a couple of journals. We might also have to take a break from the journal on August 15th but I'll try to plan for it if possible.
Since our last status update, there is not much to report: we've been fighting to meet our milestones, we've been adding content, and we've been testing. The beta build is essentially a release version functionality-wise so there are numerous things to go over.
There have been some updates to the website and now all races except for the humans are updated. They're next when we get a chance. I was going to add a couple of screenshots, but Henning took the time to put together a short video featuring the Mirdain mount, the Aerdin Cat, which you can view here:
Editor's note: Here is the video through our embedded Flash player, but please keep in mind this players at a greatly reduced quality. To show off things like the dynamic shadows, please download from the link below the player.
