So okay, release or not, suck or not, I have a question for the Darkfall fans that I just haven't been able to wrap my mind around. What is so innovative and fantastic about the concept of Darkfall, I am just not seeing it. I mean sure it is supposed to be a massive PvP focused game, but hasn't that been done? Is there really that much demand for being ganked relentlessly by 14 year old American drop outs and Chinese gold farmers that have nothing better to do than build leet characters?

DM: From the deepest crypts crawls the undead thread, it's death rattle shakes you to your core. What foul necromantic forces brought forth this foul beast.
Cleric: I attempt to turn undead.
DM: You can't this is a WoW forum D&D magic does not work here.
Cleric: Well guys we are @#$%*%!
Wizard: Agreed, I believe this Necrothread was created by a dread ForumLych, impossible to stop, without a sense of humor.
Fighter: Very well I throw a badge or some other posting reward down at the necrothread and prepare a tactical retreat.
DM: The necrothread pauses at your offer, snaps up the reward and slinks off deeper into the internet.
Rogue: Phwew! That was close... I wonder if there are even more ancient Necrothreads ahead of us?
Fighter: We will only know when we continue on our journey through the crypts of Warcry.

Can you reproduce any examples of full-loot massive PvP MMOs available out there?

Graphics and genre aside, I think Darkfall holds potential for the hardcore PvP crowd. Then again, it's a very exclusive and militant crowd.

Sigoya - Ultima Online & Shadowbane.

From everything I have seen about it, there is nothing about the game that says rush out and buy me now. While I know that all games borrow ideas and concepts from other games, Darkfall seems to near stole them. Nothing about the game is original.

Graphics are EQ1/AC1/DAoC quality.
Based on screenshots of the UI over at IGN you can see that the user interface is DAoC.
Game can't decide if it is a FPS or not. Normal movement and Magic casting is FPS, Melee you go out FPS.
Skill System - UO and AC1 style skill systems (and from what I hear, they did it better).

The list goes on, but you get the point.

Wow Delmar, you figured you'd take whatever the game journalists say and turn it 180 degrees?
I am amused, i give the originality of your logic a 10!!

Just the logic behind the statements...
Is your information based on the new UI from January 2009?
Is comparing quality of graphics what goes for stealing ideas these days?
Is the fact that it uses multiple play genres in the game something that should not be allowed?
and what makes the difference between Darkfall using ideas used to some extend in other games before? Applying your logic the only original i've ever seen is Pong!....

Let me see if I can help you understand.

1) Yes this is based on January 2009 UI.
2) Using 10 year old graphics is not where I am talking about stealing ideas. I am referring to the DAoC UI interface as stated in the January 2009 UI. Using graphics quality that is comparable to the quality of EQ1/AC1/DAoC in my opinion means they don't have the skill set to create current level of graphics quality.
3) I will give this one to only going by beta leaks of videos. Based on what I have seen especially from a Melee perspective of bouncing back and forth between views is going to get tiresome. I personally am not a big fan of FPS, therefore I wouldn't enjoy the game play.
4) Using ideas such as Blizzard and other successful MMO makers commonly do is normal for the industry. Blizzard often takes a concept and enhances it. Taking a concept and using it almost to the identical format such as Darkfall with its skill system and UO with theirs to me (and I will go with this is my opinion only) seems is where the issue lies.

No MMO is original with the exception of early UO and the original Neverwinter Nights that I used to play on AOL. They even probably borrowed from MUDs.

Oh wasnt ment badly! Was just interested to know more,

Well graphics im not getting into, seems to be a 50/50 mix as to people who think they are good and above par for current mmo's and the people that say they are 10 year old. I havent played it, so tbh i have no idea.

Combat is also something i wouldnt like to judge based on the little footage i've seen but i'd say the style fits the concept of the game.

And yeh certain aspects of a game will always resemble others, but blended together i still say it makes a nice difference from current mmo's with their devided areas and instances and level progression. Even without introducing an entirely new aspect to the genre.

Original NwN was much fun
moreso than pong!

Sigoya - Ultima Online & Shadowbane.

I would definitely agree that Shadowbane is the closest predecessor to Darkfall, but it still lacks a host of Darkall's promised features (if those get delivered.)

You know the part in your statement that scares me the most is "if those get delivered". The most recent scheduled release was January 22, 2009. They pushed the game back because this time due to concerns over handling the massive number of users signed up for beta (not that I think 200,000 is massive). Now here we are having conversations about promised features that seem to not be in the game yet. According to Tasos, the game is done and has been done, but needs networking optimization. Also based on the other thread here about the guy "Mike" who is giving out beta secrets the servers are down more than up. To me that says a game isn't done.

*ponders if they have game content*

The feature I like is not being told what to do and where to go. That's it. And this is the only serious post you'll ever get from me on the subject. Here's the serious face:

I don't think anything he said was mean, rather it was mostly true.

Here's my take on things:

1) Graphics. Honestly, no one REALLY cares about graphics, and if they do they weren't around for "real" gaming. Where the games actually had playability and re-playability. Darkfall's graphics seem fine. The big question is will it keep people entertained (if it ever comes out)?
2) UI. I agree with you here, the UI looks pretty trashy and basically identical to almost every game (MMO and single player) I've seen. But again, as long as its usable and doesn't make me want to punch a baby I'm not going to care.
3) Bouncing views. Definitely going to have a problem with this one. But we'll see how it plays before passing too much judgment I guess.
4) Skill System - If it's exactly like UO's skill/crafting system with enhancements I'm all for it. I've yet to see a more simple to use yet effective crafting system in an MMO. It had enough guts to keep it useful, and not enough to make it take 50 years to make worthwhile loot.
5) Beta leaks and status of the game. If the beta leaks are true, Tasos is an even bigger liar than most people say. He's been basically bitchslapping the community saying "Oh but we're done, the game is feature complete and ready to rock your socks off now", yet everything points to the fact they aren't even remotely close to launch. And if they do launch given what people say about the current status, it's going to be AoC all over again.

Those are just my opinions. Take them how ya want them.

Nope.

1) I said "Not that I always listen to her, but I think I will take her advice on this round."
2) The comments I made were not in the list bit mean or rude. I was just pointing out facts that I had gathered about the game.

You are welcome to discuss, debate, or ignore my observations.

Well I have almost completely lost faith in AV at this point but I can speak to what I was really looking forward to:
1) full loot - gain and lose equipment in record speeds
2) open pvp - kill that little bastard that annoys you
3) no auto-targeting - have to aim attacks and spells
4) friendly fire - rewards coordination over zergs since you can easily wound friends and heal enemies
5) skill based system - instead of class based where you usually end up with cookie cutter roles and characters
