Once Darkfall releases the paid trolls will start claiming that the game is unplayable in the various forums just to scare off potential players. It'll make a change from the trolls trying to scare off potential followers with their claims of Darkfall's complete non-existence, but it'll be "same old crap - different flavour".

It's funny to see people take the trolls at face value and then go off repeating the BS. They're the same people who took Funcom's hype at face value and pre-ordered a beautifully packaged turd.

I think the the "vaporware" claim has been obsolete for a while, ever since the game was demoed live.

Aventurine's challenge now is to release a fairly stable client and a server system that can handle all the globe-trotting PvP enthusiasts.

Okay I already apologized for doubting the existence of DF,God, Aliens and Big Foot. However is it all just wandering around generic landscapes and looking for PvP fights? I guess I wish the videos showed a bit more interesting game play and using the interface...other than moving a few windows around.

While DF is going to be relatively big in the MMO community when/if it comes out, it hasn't been "hyped" as much as you seem to insinuate. I would think if MMO developers were paying trolls, they would have hit AoC forums, Warhammer Online forums, and the WoW forums pre-WOTLK.

Thing is they don't set hardly any. They use the same sort of sidestepping talk a used car salesman or politician uses. After listening to them you walk away thinking "he didn't really say or commit to anything".

All of the deadlines they HAVE set they have missed.

Whats funny is that this game does not even exist for most of the MMO community. I know tons of people who have NEVER heard of it. Pretty sad for something that has been a "concept" for 7 years. The Darkfall devs have been so successful at keeping the game in-house that its virtually unknown in the larger gaming community. Thats not a good thing.

As far as I'm concerned, every game is vaporware till it hits the store shelves. Theres a big fat line to cross from beta to retail. Its an exspensive one too.

I'm with Hemi on this one....I had never heard of Darkfall until I saw a complaint from another user about the people here. I don't hold much stock in anything until it's available for purchase/download.

I listed about 12 developer journals, internal dates, and other deadlines the dev team had discussed with the public. It was disputed and eventually deleted by mods on the DF forums. I'm not going to go through the trouble to do it again.

Jan 1, 2009 is all you need to worry about anyway, the past is the past.

EDIT: to stay on topic, I highly doubt anyone is paid to post on a forum bashing a barely visible game in the community. That was the point of my post.

I agree, a 2008 release is unlikely.

However, a DF release within the next few months is likely.

the game is finally made it to the point where all that really remains is a beta stress test.

Hey, I just thought of something. Isnt it genius how you can flake on deadlines in development and by keeping a low profile and not hyping yourself much, once you start going public all of the missed deadlines wont seem to matter to the new fans?

I find it astounding that the devs havent done much hyping themselves and there are threads and forums everywhere on the net. For a game only hyped by word of mouth of fans, thats impressive. I can only imagine once the real PR kicks in.
