There are many of us out here in the MMORPG maelstrom who are looking for a game for us to get excited about again. The industry has gotten bland and dumbed down, and it is time for a change. PvP games that offer the ability to make and enforce your own laws are becoming few and far between.

With the future of Shadowbane uncertain, many PvP gamers have set their sights on Darkfall as their next home. I had the chance to talk with Tasos Flambouras and Kjetil Helland of Aventurine, creators of Darkfall. Tasos and Kjetil are building their game, and after what I saw today we PvPers should be saying they are making our game.

Tasos, Kjetil, and the whole of the Aventurine team are very excited about Darkfall's progress, as well they should be. Darkfall not only boasts a beautiful world engine, but also a physics engine that is a gamer's dream come true. Modes of game play that the team shared with us were diverse and fun. City capture, ship-based combat, and massive battles not only work well but they also make you want to play.

Darkfall is being built around keys that much of the industry has forgotten: is it fun; the world is limitless; and this is the game they want to play. As fans of PvP, the Aventurine team is perfect for the task set before them. More gaming companies need to become fans of gaming in order to undo the damage that has been done. We hope that Darkfall will show them the path.

I came away from this interview more enthused about a developing game than I have been in a while. It will take me some time to go through close to two hours of audio files, but when finished I will show you something you haven't seen in awhile-excitement!

Make sure you tell us in our forums what you think of this vision, because the Aventurine team wants Darkfall players to love Darkfall as much as they do.

I'll see you in Darkfall!
